How to extend the service life of open gears

Open gears, common in mills, rotary kilns, dryers and large drives, operate without a protective housing. This means direct exposure to contaminants and no possibility of oil-bath lubrication. The lubricant must adhere to the tooth and stay there under load.

The first factor in durability is choosing a high-tack lubricant with extreme-pressure resistance. Products that are too thin run off and leave the tooth flank unprotected at load peaks, causing adhesive wear and the formation of chips that condemn the gearing.

The second factor is the method and frequency of application. Automatic spray application at regular intervals keeps the film constant. In manual application, the interval must consider the load regime and exposure to contaminants, and visual inspection of the contact pattern should be a maintenance routine.

Lubrigear 2 was developed precisely for this scenario: a high-resistance film that stays adhered under heavy loads, protecting gears, chains and gearboxes. Talk to JEFLUB to define the lubrication plan for your equipment.
