Cutting emulsion: how to control concentration and contamination
A soluble-oil emulsion only delivers performance at the correct concentration. Too diluted, it loses lubricity and corrosion protection, letting the part stain and the tool wear faster. Too concentrated, it generates foam, sticky residue and unnecessary cost. Measuring the concentration with a refractometer a few times a week is the cheapest way to avoid scrap.
Contamination is the second enemy. Leaked oil (tramp oil) on the tank surface suffocates the bath, encourages odor and microbiological growth and accelerates degradation. Chips and fines in suspension reduce cooling and scratch the part. Removing tramp oil with a skimmer, filtering the solids and keeping the tank aerated greatly extends the charge life.
With a simple monitoring routine, it is possible to double the bath life and stabilize the process. JEFLUB offers the line of soluble and semi-synthetic fluids and conservation solutions such as Ultra Bac SC, as well as equipment like the skimmer and the automatic mixer.
